returning home. we just got back from a week in new york and ahh, yes, it feels so good to be home! my flower garden has taken off while i was away (pics to come) and we have added a bunch of new stores and boutiques as well. in fact, we went from fifteen stores to around ninety in just one year! so we are pleased as punch but very busy too. so please do visit our new retailers, they all seem lovely.

off they flew, group show in LA. i've been asked to decorate the sweetest little wood bird for an art show in LA. here are the details (my friend lisa solomon from sf is participating too):

Atwater Village's LittleBird Gallery is pleased to announce an upcoming benefit art exhibition. “Off They Flew” 100 Birds Benefiting The Griffith Park Restoration Fund. The show will open with a public reception on Saturday, September 8, 2007-7:00-11:00pm and run through September 22,2007. For this exhibit, one hundred local, National and International artists have generously donated their talent, each adorning in his or her own style a small decorative bird. These wood (made from recyled materials) birds will be sold and profits will be given to the GPRF, helping our beloved Griffith Park come back to life after fire.

Alter This! my new children's book that i wrote has hit bookstores worldwide. not too many people know this, but i used to be an art teacher at one time. although that career was extremely short-lived, i still love working with children and their creative process. so i asked about 10 of my friends to help contribute to a how-to art book about 'altered books' for kids. basically, you can take any old book of your liking, and turn it into a journal, secret box, checkerboard, picture frame, what have you! it's an affordable (and earth friendly) way to have your children make art. just to note, this book is more about what would be enjoyable for kids to create, and less about my own artwork itself. (although their are a few projects that will be quite obvious as to who did them!)

"Altered books are a hot craft trend, and this is the first how-to book on the subject for a young audiences. The step-by-step directions are clearly written, and the examples shown are accessible to teens, unlike some of those in books for adults." -School Library Journal

you can purchase the book right here.
